If you live in Northern Virginia, you’ve probably seen Pete in your mail, on TV and on internet ads. I photographed Pete interviewing hundreds of Virginia citizens about their telivision and internet service. Pete is a great spokes model who also does stand up comedy in Philadelphia. Now that I know him I see him in all kinds of advertising campaigns. It’s always a pleasure to work with good talent.
I was on a ladder photographing a community pool house for a home builder client when Little Miss McNamee started asking questions. I gave her a business card which you can see in her hand. She has all the qualities I look for in a young bathing suit model: fit, nice smile, big floaties, etc.
I got a model release from her parents and sent them a copy. They own this restaurant on Fenwick Island, near Ocean City Maryland:

The key to making good photography is to get the camera in front of something interesting. Putting the camera in an interesting place or looking closely at something of interest usually make good pictures. I try to find clients that can get me in front of something worthy of photographing. If the product, person, or place isn’t of interest to the intended viewer, then there’s only so much I can do to make a successful photograph. “It is what it is; I just take pictures of it.” My job as a photographer is to recognize the qualities of a subject that are the most intriguing and focus on those qualities.
Finding a good subject matter for photographs has been the driving force in my life. It drives almost everything I do, including having two kids. I told my wife that I wanted kids so that I would have someone to play with, but the truth is I needed portrait subjects.
I’m speaking at FotoWeekDC. The firemen image will be displayed on posters around town at Foto Week and in a slide show.
